Father’s day is this weekend and coming up with a perfect gift can seem daunting. You want to get them something they will love to show them your appreciation for all they have done for you over the years. Not to forget the husbands who are the father of your children. What do you get for these men that you love?

I like to put together a Man’s bucket for the men I love in my life. This way it is something that is a bit of all their favorite things, and customized to their personality. It is manly and it is always a huge hit!

This year, I put together a BBQ Man’s bucket and filled it with all things fantastic that he will need to bbq this summer, one of his favorite things to do on the weekends. And of course, I had to include a couple of his favorite wines, Cambria Julia’s Vineyard Pinot Noir and Cambria Katherine’s Vineyard Chardonnay.  My dad loves seasoning, so to make it even more special, I decided to make him some special blends of bbq seasonings that he can use for all types of meats.

I wanted to give him a variety of flavors and seasoning that would go well with any type of meat that he decided to grill for whatever mood he was in. These recipes will be a hit with dad, and everyone in the family have a choice of their favorite rub flavors.

DIY BBQ Spice Rube REcipes

Spicy BBQ Rub

  • ¼ cup brown sugar
  • ¼ cup paprika
  • 3 tbsp black pepper
  • 4 tbsp coarse salt
  • 2 tsp garlic powder
  • 2 tsp onion powder
  • 2 tsp celery powder
  • 2 tsp cayenne pepper powder

Montreal Steak Seasoning

  • 4 Tbsp coarse salt
  • 2 Tbsp cracked pepper
  • 1 Tbsp onion powder
  • 1 Tbsp crushed red pepper chili flakes
  • 1 Tbsp thyme
  • 1 Tbsp crushed dried rosemary
  • ½ Tbsp garlic powder

Kansas City Smokey Sweet Rub

  • 1/3 cup packed brown sugar
  • 1/3 cup granulated sugar (Or you can just use more brown sugar)
  • ¼ cup paprika
  • 2 Tbsp seasoned salt, such as Lawry’s
  • 2 Tbsp smoked salt (can be hard to find, but is necessary)
  • 2 Tbsp onion salt
  • 2 Tbsp celery salt
  • 1 Tbsp ground black pepper
  • 1 Tbsp chili powder (it’s best if you can get pure chili powder, not a blend, read the label)
  • 1 tsp mustard powder
  • ½ tsp poultry seasoning
  • ½ tsp ground ginger
  • ¼ tsp ground allspice

Combine all ingredients in a bowl. Transfer to a glass jar for storage in a cool, dark place. The rub will keep for several months.
